From 1 July 2010 in, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will manage all of the training and assessment for WorkSafe High Risk Work licences in Victoria. The licence is called a Licence to Perform High Risk Work (HRW), and is recognised in all states and territories.
From 1 July 2010, a person wishing to apply for a licence to perform high risk work must enrol into a course and undertake formal training in a nationally endorsed HRW unit of competency, delivered by a RTO, relating to the HRW licence class.
The HRW units specify the outcomes required to perform HRW i.e. plan work, conduct routine checks, transfer loads, and shut down and secure the equipment. The units are based on the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.
While there is a structure in HRW training unit, it stills provides for a combination of formal and informal training methods, depending on the arrangements made between the applicant and the RTO, or the employer and the RTO.
No. A licence candidate must enrol for training with an RTO before proceeding to a High Risk Work Licence assessment with an assessor. The RTO determines when the applicant is ready for assessment.
